“Who in the world am I? Ah, that’s the great puzzle” –Lewis Carrol
So, who are you? What is your purpose in this life? Or rather, what do you wish to succeed in? Are you a good person? Are you a bad person? Should I know you? Should I not? Who. Are. You.
The hardest part of life is to figure out who exactly you are. You spend your whole childhood and part of your adulthood trying to figure yourself out and live up to expectations, right? I know, at least, I have. I’m still learning. Now, let’s transfer this into writing. I mean, after all this is a writing/reading blog!
As writers we work really hard to figure out our identity. We want to follow in the footsteps of the great, timeless authors. Is that really what we want, though? To be known as the person who writes like Jane Austen, etc. Do we want to be associated with great authors whose names are memorable while ours are not? Is that what you want? Sure, it’s flattering. But no. I don’t believe that’s what we want. We want our own unique, beautiful identity in writing.
So, what makes our own unique, beautiful identity? It takes a long, long time to work out. I’ve been writing since I was five. It hasn’t been until the last few years that I started to see my own flavor come out. That’s over a decade of writing! It takes a long time and requires a great deal of patience. Sometimes you feel like collapsing into a puddle of tears and disappearing forever from everyone. Don’t give up hope. It’s only temporary. When you start to find your voice in writing. . . it becomes the greatest thing ever. I can’t express how exciting and thrilling it was to be told that I had finally started to find my voice.
Everyone has a different voice. Make yours you. Make your own identity. Define who you are. You are beautiful. You deserve to be heard.
Authors note—I apologize for having not keeping up well on this blog. I feel really guilty about it. I have been crazy busy trying to get ready for my Senior year of high school. I’m sure many of you have experienced similar things! I’ve also been running my other two blogs. www.stargraphics.wordpress.com and www.thebookramblingtoday.tumblr.com So, I have been busy but neglecting this blog in unforgiveable. I will try to continue writing frequently as things calm down a bit in my life. Thank you all so much for your encouragement and support and for your superhero amount of patience! I sincerely appreciate you all putting up with me! Thank you from the bottom of my heart. God bless each and every one of you!
